And yet he thinks becoming an immortal Emperor is a good idea? I love the way the author ended the series. But Wolfric claims that he is already bored with ruling the Empire and it has only been like a year or two. This way Otto can completely devote himself to his magical studies and not have to worry about dealing with the annoying and squabbling nobles all the time. Does that really make him a good guy? The one twist that I didn't see coming was Otto offering to make Wolfric immortal too. So while he may claim that he did the world a favor by eliminating the other Arcane Lords, he was more than happy to sit on his hands and let tens of thousands of wizards be enslaved and killed for a thousand years. Something that Valtan was more than happy to simply ignore. Not to mention that while Otto may have done some pretty dark stuff (namely wiping out an entire city of men, women and children), he at least has secured freedom for all wizards in the Empire. And yet he is an Arcane Lord, and doesn't see himself as bad.? Bit of a double standard there. Claiming that any new Lord will be insane and dangerous and start killing people left and right. He is clearly terrified of the prospect of other Arcane Lords arising. Lord Valtan's character is just something that I can't wrap my head around. Not to mention he is I believe the one who discovered the secret to true immortality. I mean this guy was so dark and powerful that even the other Arcane Lords outright feared him. I must say that my favorite character in the series so far has to be Amet Sur. But I found I really love Otto and the journey he has and will go through.

I think this is honestly the first book series I have ever read which features a antihero or at the very least a dark MC. I had never heard of this author before I started reading Portal Wars, but I am already in love.
